The brief was to create a landscape that was comfortable to the eye, pleasant to relax in, and merge with the surrounding landscape and expansive mountain views.

The landscape needed to incorporate areas of lawn, and an entrance driveway that have enough space for numerous cars to park.

Overview

Before

The property was in the state of a newly finished building site. It was clean of building rubble, however it was in short supply of plants and good soil.

The property had retaining blocks aiding in holding back soil from the neighbours property level and a water tank at the back of the kitchen.

The property was generally level at the entertainment and pool areas, but sloped down to the entrance gateway and driveway.

Style Guide

The style for this garden was simple... lots of space, lots of lawn, and loads of pretty flowers in purples and whites.

The shapes of the garden beds were to be a mixture of straight lines that complimented the linear lines of the house, and curved lines that softened specific areas and integrated them into the larger space more effectively.

Focal points were to be minimal in number and to be natural items eg: trees. Aromatic plants and flowers were to be incorporated where appropriate.

Design

The large space in front of the house was designed to be a luxurious driveway with nuerous parking opportunities. We designed a circular driveway to ensure that the flow of cars at any time would not be impeded by parked cars, or pedestrian traffic.

The pool area was created to be surrounded by pretty flowers, aromatic fragrances, while still keeping the view of the Constantia wine farms along the mountain side in sight.

The gardens visible from the guest cottage and bathrooms were designed to be intimate and private, allowing bathing with doors wide open and views out of the windows unobstructed.
